Overview

Steel Structure Calculator ("the app") is an educational and preliminary-estimation tool for structural engineering calculations. This policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and your choices. The app does not require you to create an account and does not knowingly collect personal information for its own purposes.

Information stored on your device

Calculation inputs, results, and any saved calculation history are stored locally on your device. This data is not transmitted to us and is not accessible to us. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage removes this data.

Steel AI Advisor (bring-your-own-key)

The AI Advisor feature is optional and requires you to supply your own API key for a third-party AI provider of your choice (for example Groq, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, or Anthropic Claude). When you use this feature:

  • Your API key is stored locally on your device and is not sent to us.
  • Your questions/prompts are sent directly from your device to the AI provider you selected, over HTTPS, in order to generate a response.
  • Use of this feature is subject to the selected provider's own privacy policy and terms, since we do not control or store the data once it reaches that provider.

If you do not enter an API key, the AI Advisor feature is inactive and no data is sent for this purpose.

Advertising

The app displays ads served through Google AdMob. AdMob (and Google) may collect device identifiers, approximate location, and usage data to serve and measure ads, and may use this information consistent with Google's advertising policies. You can manage ad personalization through your device's Google Ads Settings.

Permissions used

  • INTERNET — required to load ads and, if you enable it, to contact your chosen AI provider for the AI Advisor feature.
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — used to check connectivity before making network requests.

Data sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not operate any backend server that stores your calculations or API keys. The only data leaving your device is: (a) ad-related data sent to Google AdMob, and (b) prompts sent directly to the third-party AI provider you personally selected and authenticated, if you use the AI Advisor.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
